Atal Bihari Vajpayee was an Indian politician who served as the Prime Minister of India three times. He was born on December 25, 1924, in Gwalior, India, and passed away on August 16, 2018, in New Delhi, India.
Vajpayee was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was one of the founding members of the party. He was also a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a right-wing, Hindu nationalist organization. Vajpayee was known for his oratory skills and was regarded as one of the most charismatic politicians in India.
Vajpayee started his political career in 1942, during the Indian independence movement, when he joined the Quit India Movement. He was arrested by the British colonial government and spent several months in prison. After India gained independence in 1947, Vajpayee became active in the political scene.

In 1996, Vajpayee became the Prime Minister of India for the first time, but his government lasted only 13 days. He became the Prime Minister again in 1998, and this time his government lasted for 13 months. During his second term, Vajpayee's government conducted a series of nuclear tests,which brought India into the club of nuclear powers.
In 1999, Vajpayee's government faced a major crisis when Pakistan-backed militants infiltrated into Indian territory in Kargil, Kashmir. Vajpayee responded with force and launched a military operation to push the militants back. The conflict lasted for several months, and India emerged victorious.
In 2004, Vajpayee's government was defeated in the general elections, and he resigned as the Prime Minister. He remained active in politics and continued to be a respected figure inv Indian politics until his death in 2018.
Vajpayee was a statesman and a visionary leader who was loved and respected by people across the political spectrum. He was known for his ability to build consensus and for his commitment to democracy and secularism. His legacy continues to inspire young Indians to this day.
