Rajiv Gandhi



Rajiv Gandhi was an Indian politician who served as the sixth Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989. He was born on August 20, 1944, in Mumbai, India. He was the eldest son of Indira Gandhi, who was also a former Prime Minister of India. Rajiv Gandhi was one of the most charismatic and dynamic leaders in Indian history.

Early Life and Education

Rajiv Gandhi completed his schooling from Doon School in Dehradun Uttarakhand, and later studied at the University of Cambridge, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After completing his education, Rajiv Gandhi worked for Indian Airlines as a pilot for a brief period.

Entry into Politics

Rajiv Gandhi entered politics after the assassination of his mother, Indira Gandhi, in 1984. He was appointed as the Prime Minister of India by the then President, Zail Singh. His sudden entry into politics took everyone by surprise, but he was able to win a massive majority in the elections that followed.

As the Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi introduced several reforms to modernize the Indian economy and promote foreign investment. He launched the "Technology Missions" program to promote science and technology in India. He also introduced the "National Policy on Education" to improve the quality of education in India.
